'Disparate Renewal' is an ongoing body of work by Cody Bayne that transforms the overlooked material language of Los Angeles into a form of contemporary abstraction. Built from harvested letterpress posters, paint fragments, street residue, and other urban remnants, the work treats the city as both surface and witness—recording what has been worn down, covered over, erased, or rebuilt. Through layered processes of adhesion, abrasion, concealment, and reassembly, Bayne preserves fleeting evidence of place while pushing it toward permanence. What emerges are works that operate like cityscapes: hard-edged but vulnerable, coded but lyrical—where language collapses into texture, memory becomes composition, and the street is translated into a meditation on time, impermanence, and renewal.
